'Ohana' is the ancient Hawaiian word meaning 'family,' or 'kin folk,' but it has come to mean much more than that. The word encompasses that sense of good will and community that comes from being surrounded by loved ones. It was in this spirit of ohana that modern architects began designing small guest houses or cottages attached set off from the main house.
